From Vienna to Rome. Habsburg Masterpieces from the Kunsthistorisches Museum
Museo del Corso – Polo Museale, Palazzo Cipolla
6 March – 5 July 2026
For the first time in Italy, more than fifty masterpieces from the collections of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna recount the birth, splendor, and complexity of one of Europe’s greatest cultural enterprises.
The exhibition — curated by Cäcilia Bischoff, art historian at the Kunsthistorisches Museum — brings together works collected or commissioned by the House of Habsburg, restoring the image of a multiethnic, multicultural, and multireligious empire that made art a tool for cultural representation, the dissemination of knowledge, and dialogue among civilizations. The exhibition features works by the masters Rubens, Velázquez, Brueghel the Elder, Van Dyck, and Cranach, alongside great Italian artists such as Caravaggio, Arcimboldo, Titian, Tintoretto, and Veronese.
Completing the itinerary is a precious selection of works from the Kunstkammer, one of the most extraordinary European “cabinets of curiosities,” where the wonders of nature and the triumphs of human ingenuity coexist in a universe of splendor, curiosity, and contemplation.
Promoted and produced by Fondazione Roma in collaboration with the Kunsthistorisches Museum, with the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Austria in Rome, the exhibition is organized with the support of MondoMostre and made possible also thanks to the contribution of the Sella Group — through Banca Sella and Banca Patrimoni Sella & C. — the exhibition’s official sponsor. Atac is the mobility partner and Radio Dimensione Suono is the radio partner of the initiative.
