Palazzo Sciarra Colonna
Founded in the sixteenth century and now home to Fondazione Roma, Palazzo Sciarra Colonna was given its current appearance in the seventeenth century by the architects Flaminio Ponzio and Orazio Torriani. Between 1743 and 1750, for Cardinal Prospero Colonna di Sciarra, Luigi Vanvitelli designed the elegant Rococo decoration of the apartment on the second floor (the Cardinal’s Library and the Cabinet of Mirrors), in which the Roman painter Stefano Pozzi also took part.
At the end of the nineteenth century, the piano nobile, today an integral part of the exhibition route of the Museo del Corso – Polo Museale, was restored at the request of Maffeo Barberini Colonna di Sciarra by the architect Francesco Settimi.
