Rome, 21 November 2025 – 12 April 2026
The exhibition dedicated to Carlo Maratti, one of the most important figures of late 17th-century Rome, opens to the public on 21 November in the exhibition spaces of the Museo del Corso – Museum Hub at Palazzo Sciarra Colonna, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of his birth (1625–2025).
The exhibition, based on an idea by Simonetta Prosperi Valenti Rodinò—one of the leading experts on Carlo Maratti—focuses on a selection of around 40 paintings, including the standout Portrait of Gaspare Marcaccioni, recently returned to Italy, to its place of origin, from the United States.
Works by Giuseppe Passeri, Andrea Sacchi, Francesco Trevisani, Giuseppe Bartolomeo Chiari, and others, belonging to the Permanent Collection of Fondazione Roma, are presented in dialogue with paintings by Maratti from national and international collections. Together, they represent the main strands of Maratti’s production: portraits, sacred subjects, and Arcadian themes.
The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to explore Carlo Maratti’s artistic qualities and the impact of his work on subsequent generations of masters and followers, and is open to the public with free admission.
