21 November 2025 – 12 April 2026
Museo del Corso – Museum Hub (Palazzo Sciarra Colonna, Via del Corso 320)
The exhibition De arte pingendi. Painting in the documents of the Monte di Pietà of Rome opens to the public on 21 November in the spaces of the Historical Archive of Fondazione Roma (Palazzo Sciarra Colonna). The project aims to reconstruct and document the significant relationship between the Monte di Pietà and the visual arts—especially painting—both through direct commissions from the historic Roman institution and as part of its broader artistic and devotional heritage.
In addition to documents from the archival collections of the Monte di Pietà and the Cassa di Risparmio di Roma, the exhibition features two major loans: Leonardo da Vinci’s Treatise on Painting (1540), from the Vatican Apostolic Library, and the Letter from Baldassarre Castiglione to Pope Leo X (1519), created in collaboration with Raphael and coming from the State Archives of Mantua—one of the most important testimonies of the Italian Renaissance.
The exhibition is open to the public with free admission.
