Screening of Francis of Assisi (1972), directed by Liliana Cavani, introduced by Don Alessio Geretti
The event features a screening of the restored version of Francis of Assisi (1972), directed by Liliana Cavani and produced by RAI as its first feature-length film for television.
The film offers an intense and unconventional portrait of the saint, recounting his decision to abandon wealth and privilege in favour of a life of poverty and closeness to the most vulnerable. Far from a purely hagiographic portrayal, the director’s perspective highlights the revolutionary power of the Franciscan message and its ability to challenge social conventions and question the relationship with power.
An opportunity to rediscover, through the language of cinema, the contemporary relevance of a figure whose life and message continue to challenge us today.
